I am super excited about this year and what it has to offer. Are you? I love the promise of new beginnings that a new year brings. This year, for the first time, I don’t have any New Year resolutions. I just have goals. Aha! I got you on that one. Didn’t I?
I made resolutions over and over and over again in the past but never got past the first day, maybe month or two months at the most before I broke ALL my resolutions. So, this year, it’s a year of change. And what better time than the beginning of the year to make these changes. This year, I am setting goals. What’s the difference between a resolution and a goal you may ask? Well, here’s the difference…
A resolution is a firm decision or a formal intention to do or not to do something. A goal, on the other hand, is an aim, a purpose, a target or an end. A goal is something that we want enough that we make an effort to reach it.
The reason most of us can’t keep our resolutions is because, they are just intentions without a plan. We map out a plan or plans to achieve our goals.
My goals are very simple and measurable and achievable:
1. Write my first book it by June, 2013 — I’ve been toiling with the idea of writing a book for 2 years. It’s time to get it done.
2. Invite a different person or family to my home for dinner at least once a month — I have 12 dinners to plan this year!
3. Acquire at least 3 new clients by the end of the year. These 3 new clients MUST meet all the qualities of my ideal client.
4. Go out of town on a one-week vacation with my kids this summer.
5. Learn 2 new skills that are non-work related.
What are your goals this year? I’d love to know!
